The select range of bicycles we offer has always been based on the bicycles we would want to own ourselves.

Duratec Frames are made of a unique material. The Double Butted 7020T6 Aluminium or Duralumin as it’s known is a super lightweight and durable aluminium. Only manufactured in Europe and originally created for the aviation industry due to its strength and svelte weight, Duralumin is a perfect material for bicycle frames, offering an amazing ride experience that is responsive, stiff and comfortable. Duratec are the only manufacturer of bicycle frames using this material which sets their frames apart from the “off the peg” aluminium bike manufacturers.

They do not hold stock, each frame and bike build is made to order and made by hand in their cutting edge facility. Duratec offer a huge number of sizes and build options, all available with a short lead time and shipped to Bicycles By Design, where they are built and checked…or delivered directly to you complete with a comprehensive factory check.

The welds on their aluminium frames are meticulous grinded to be as smooth as butter, providing amazing joints. These are not only aesthetically pleasing, they also reduce stress peaks at the joints and help to increase frame stiffness.

Typically, we build more custom bicycles than we do standard models, as we prefer to give you the preference over your components and offer a bicycle more suited to your riding style.

We have assembled a wide range of bicycles in our workshop, and are experts understand the hidden nuances of component compatibility. So we'll guide you on what’s possible and what will suit how you're planning to ride.

As well as components sometimes custom sizing (made to measure) is recommended, we'll do our best to fit you to a standard size, and possibly alter components to achieve the fit. Although we'll never recommend a size we don't believe will fit!

Carbon fibre monocoque frame

Recently Duratec released the Phantom, a carbon fibre monocoque frame manufactured from a single piece with no joints, there isn't another frame on the market like it.

This is a truly one piece, full carbon frame with no metal inserts. There are 8 sizes available which is unique in the high-end carbon fibre road bike market. This means, they have opened 8 different moulds at massive expense, showing their huge commitment to development, manufacturing excellence, attention to detail and sizing for the rider!
